Penny Portrait

I am a nurse from the Pittsburgh area that lives in South Carolina with my husband. I never got to see Prince live before he passed and it's one of my life's only regrets. He was a musical genius and we are lucky to have his music and legacy live on. I'm a penny portrait artist (when not nursing) and Prince was my first portrait. Women not girls rule my world, I said they rule my world, is my all time favorite Prince lyric.

Bethany Tobias is an RN in the Hilton Head, South Carolina area. Her penny art evolved from creating penny floors to making original portraits of people she admires, entirely out of pennies. Bethany's husband Toby epoxys the portraits and builds the frames out of wood. Recently, Bethany nearly caught her garage on fire whilst experimenting with tarnishing pennies in her back yard. She did not tell her husband. She is originally from South West Pennsylvania, and loves all things Pittsburgh.

Bethany and her husband Toby drove all the way from South Carolina to Minneapolis collect the Penny Portrait. On arriving, she decided to gift it to the People's Museum, as she felt it needed to stay in Minneapolis. Thank you, Bethany 💜
