Let's Go Crazy

This is a jacket I made that was inspired by Prince's jacket on the cover of Rolling Stone. I received a generous donation of dyes from Marliss Jensen, an artist whom custom dyed many of Prince's iconic looks. I hand painted silk with these dyes in rich purples as well as used silver crinkled leather with areas that I studded by hand. I made the pattern in an updated oversized jacket look, and voila, Prince inspired jacket.

I am a fashion designer and fiber artist located in Downtown Minneapolis. I use an ancient Japanese art form called Shibori with hand dyeing to create patterns and designs on fabric, then create clothing out of these art pieces. I love using vibrant and unexpected color combos as well as ironic fabric pairings to create exciting looks. I believe fashion is the most personal form of art as it is how you initially introduce yourself and give off an impression. Prince was no stranger to this as he used fashion and color, especially his famous purple, to express himself and make a statement. My favorite Prince song is absolutely Let's Go Crazy, so catchy and fun!
