Terry Jackson — Memories & Photos

Memories from North Minneapolis and the beginnings of the Minneapolis Sound. This photograph, lent by collector Rich Benson, was taken by Charles Chamblis outside Bernadette Anderson's house at 1244 Russell Ave North, next door to Terry Jackson's house. It shows the band Grand Central. Linda Anderson (keyboard), André Anderson (Cymone) (bass, vocals), Terry Jackson (timbales), Morris Day (drums — Morris replaced original drummer Charles Chaz Smith), Prince Rogers Nelson (vocals, guitar, keyboard) and William Hollywood Doughty (congas).

Grand Central was formed in 1971. They rehearsed at Terry Jackson's house at 1248 Russell Ave, next door to the Andersons' house, where Prince, André and Linda lived. They played at local community centers and high school dances.

Terry participated in the North Minneapolis community day at the People's Museum for Prince June 21, where former school mates and neighbors of Prince gathered to share memories. Terry also played congas for closing day celebrations with DJ Manny.

Terry Jackson grew up at 1248 Russell Avenue, the birthplace of the Minneapolis Sound.
