Artifacts from school days with Prince
Copies of a Prince drawing, a letter, and a valentine

Stephanie and Prince went to school together. They first met in 1967 at John Hay Elementary School. Thanks to her mother's excellent record keeping and Stephanie's careful preservation, we have a window into childhood and school days and can instantly recognise Prince's beautiful cursive script and suggestions of the songwriter he would become.

Stephanie Carlson. Classmate. Neighbor. Friend. Admirer.

Curator's Note: Stephanie convened her school friends for the People's Museum and organized a small reunion of classmates of Prince for a special day at the People's Museum. We started with a tour of Prince's North Minneapolis, then welcomed the community for an afternoon of story sharing. For more:Way Back Home blog
