April 21, 2026 was a freakishly warm day in Minneapolis, with highs in the 80s. Early spring plants were leaping out of the ground. In the morning, I noticed a patch of tulips near my sidewalk with buds so tight you couldn't tell the color. I hadn't mapped the tulips I planted last fall, so their color was a mystery. After dinner and reminiscing about Prince with my husband (and huge fan) Mark, I looked out the front window and screamed, They're PURPLE! Seven purple tulips stood in honor on the 10th anniversary of Prince's death.
